wow!

In 1700, a common cure for a certain ailment was to take the patient to a blacksmith, lay their head on an anvil, and have the blacksmith swing their heaviest hammer at their head but pull it away at the last second. What were they trying to cure? Insanity. It was thought that the patient would be shocked back into normal mental health... It's probably the only time wetting yourself would be considered a sign that you were cured.
